I don't often post advertisements or links; however, it occured to me as I prepared myself for the insanity that is November, that there might be individuals on this site who might wish to attempt this. What is it: During the month of november. Somewhere around 30,000 (as of last year) people from around the world attempt to write a complete novel in a single month. Admitedly it is a relatively short novel goal: 50,000 words. Quality doesn't matter. They don't read your work. There is no prize other than a nifty 'yeah you did it' certificate and a finished novel... which you can edit in december. The rules are simple: Start the novel on or after 1 november. Finish before midnight 30 november. On average if you write 1667 words per day (that's 2-3 pages single spaced/day) all month you will achieve 50,010 words (the 10 extra words should make up for differences in their wordcounting software and yours if it is unfavorable. One question: i don't suppose writing on another language is permitted?

Actually yes it is. The counter is a machine. It doesn't care what language you send in. The founders don't care which language you write in. The point is to WRITE, that's all to finish a book whatever the style whatever the format whatever the language. One of my goals is to one day get good enough with Russian that I can actually do this IN Russian. (nowhere near that.) The forums are mostly in english because it started in the US and English seems to be the most common denominator. There may be forums for it in other languages, I'm just not aware of them. ~DA

This is so awesome! I am definitely planning to join and try for it this month. Gack! This on top of everything else! Am I insane? Probably. Anyway, it looks like a lot of fun and I look forward to getting involved. Not sure how active I'll be on the forums, but I'll definitely be trying to write.

I've been writing and perfecting a novel for well over two years. (Don't laugh it's a work in progress). Part of the reason being major time issues and the other being that when I receive a writer's block, I receive it in extreme waves. The upside is that when I am writing fluently, ideas come to me more quickly than usual. Anyway, DA, you've sparked my interest. Psionline should have it's own little contest eh?

Good Luck TC. Technically you should start on Nov 1. I haven't won yet, something usually comes up. (loosing 15,000 words the first year and having to start over didn't help). Which means this year's goal: Write FASTER! That way I have pleanty of time to cope with Murphy and his rather annoying laws.

*grins* they have forums for that. They have one whole subforum dedicated to plot, either fixing a broken one that won't go anymore, or comming up with one. ~The Devil's Advocate

Yeah, I'm going to start a new idea when November comes.... This should be very interesting, considering my time constraints and considering a period of one month for a time span.
Good luck for those of you participating! I'm glad to see something within my domain...
Hehe, Murphy's Law...

I'm glad to see so much interest. My daughter is even planning to join in the fun and at the age of 7 has a goal of writing 1/3 what the rest of us are attempting: 500 words/day or one page typed, single spaced. You know it can be random entries in a characters journal over a course of time or a stream of consciousness showing what the character is thinking, right? It doesn't have to necessarily follow a give outline. That's part of the fun, in my honest opinion.

Just a question, DA. Is the page format for size in octodecimo (4X6.5inches), or a different format?
Also, the link doesn't seem to be loading. I'll try some more.

It's formated for standard computer screens as far as I know. It's SLOW because they have a smaller server than they have a traffic volume most of the time... But they don't get paid for it so... ~The Devil's Advocate

PM me too if you join so I can add you when I get to that stage. I'm easy to find as I kept the same name over there. So yeah, let the madness and writing begin.
I wonder what would happen if I wrote a fictitious novel about an empath or telepath dealing with growing up and dealing with overload from others and learning to cope with life. You know a diary or stream of conciousness from that perspective would be rather interesting to write...and of course totally fictional (no I would not be recording it /directly/ off reality and experience, merely basing upon personal and first-hand stories from friends).....nah, I already have my novel planned. But it might be a thought worth pursuing next year.

I, like many, am rather partial to the fantastic craze that's hit. I love the idea of a novel where anything goes. Realistic fiction is also fun, but fantasy allows you to stretch the limitations as far as they'll go.
