Most people do not realize the dangers of OBE or believe they exist because they PERSONALLY have not been overtly aftected by them. Some of these dangers and influences (these usually fall under 'combat' or 'religion' so are not open game for discussion on this site) are very subtle. It can take years to notice... if you ever do. The most dangerous things are the ones that are NOT overt "I am going to take over your body MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Science Fiction stuff. They're usually closer to that 'friend' that insists it's alright 'just this once' to try something you're not suposed to. Or lie to your other friends about something 'just this once' or 'it's for a good cause' or 'It's just a little white lie it won't hurt anything.' That kind of danger can do as much or more damage to who and what you are. Heart attack isn't the only way to die.

The majority of the dangers are mental. They are not exclusively astral. I have had enough of the problems inherent to OBEs and the Astral Plane come to ME I have no desire to give them even a marginally easier target.

being out of your body in the astral is much different than being in your body experiencing your thoughts, not sure why you would state that there was much similarity there
besides this when you go too deep into dreams they can also be dangerous, physical dangers as i think i have said before are generally meaningless, your body is just a tool

Then I take it you would have no trouble at all if you had a fatal heart attack tomorrow? Or broke an arm? Or your back and could never walk again? The body's just a tool, so any danger and damage to it is utterly insignificant right? (Please note dripping sarcasm.)
Going out of body is every bit as dangerous as astral projection... They are similar enough that "Astral Projection" (projecting yourself to the Astral Plane) and "Out of Body" have been used interchangably. The point is they are DANGEROUS. (As we have covered on this site every 3 months or so when someone ELSE comes in going "oh this is so cool!!!!") Yeah, about as cool as playing russian roulette with five bullets in the six shooter.

not utterly insignifigant, especially as my thoughts are subject to being affected my my bodys reactions, but far less signifigant than being mentally conditioned in disagreeable ways, which can include being forced to injure your body, but is not limited to such things

Masochism is general not the worlds best idea, neither is self mutilation... Both of these things usually result in trips to doctors who prescribe mind altering things and have funny little jackets that tie in the back.

yes i dislike lab drugs, and i kinda fear psych wards even if i step on the edge of being thrown in one, its like being a prisoner, a prisoner of evil psychologists who will screw with your head to the max

Then I recommend taking care of yourself and avoiding things that might attract interesting unwanted attention.
Back to the topic at hand. Physical dangers and mental dangers must BOTH be considered when dealing with psionics in ANY fashion. If your body is neglected too badly your abilities with psionics WILL suffer. If you break your leg it WILL affect your mental state. If your mental state is poor, it will effect your physical health. (These are medically demonstrated phenomena.) Out of Body Experiences and any dealings with places such as the Astral Plane stretch that link between the mind and body. In and of itself that is dangerous. If that link snaps... remember what I said about body and mind completely separating being this thing we call DEATH? It certainly weakens you even if that threshold is not crossed. The WHOLE is stronger than the sum of its parts because those parts augment one another rather than just combining.
