This deals with the part of NI's manual on the subconscious mind. This is where it can be found

"The Subconscious
Let's start with the subconscious. I've had the chance to learn more about its nature from psychology journals and some books dedicated completely to this topic. What is the subconscious? Subconscious is a separate mind within your own brain (scary, isn't it? Smile). Many say it's a part of your own mind, but, either way, normally you don't have a conscious awareness of it. If you imagine your brain as the CPU (central processing unit of a computer), your body-parts as the periphery devices like printer, monitor, etc. and your own mind as the software controlling the CPU, then your subconscious must be the operating system (let's hope it's not Windows Smile), between the CPU and the program. If you are a programmer, you know that every Windows program interacts constantly with Windows itself via messages. And although you aren't aware of it, your subconscious sends you hundreds of messages in form of feelings, memories, etc. And whenever you want to move a leg or perform telekinesis, you unconsciously send a "message" to your subconscious to perform the task. You might think, you are moving the object, but in fact it's your subconscious. Without it you are as helpless as software on a CD. All of your physical and many of your mental skills lie in your subconscious."
So to perform the conscious act of moving my leg, my subconscious mind moves it? If that is the case, how am I conscious of moving my leg? You have various forms of neurons in the body. You have sensory neurons, motor neurons, and gial cells, and interneurons.
The gial cells produce the mylean sheath of the neurons and removes waste, they rarely transmit information. Sensory neurons receive and transmit information from the enviorment to and then transmit it to the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). Motor neurons transmit information from the central nervous system to muscles and organs . Sitting in between the neurons, the interneurons coordinate information among the sensory neurons and motor neurons.
Alot of reflexes are associated with spinal cord functioning not processing of the brain. If you apply an electric charge to the muscle of a dead man's leg, it will jump.
When I want to consciously move my hand, the part of the brain responsible for motor skills sends what is called an excitatory message to the soma of the neuron. The soma (the cell body) opens up the sodium potassium pumps to let either let in positive ions or release negatively charged ions in the soma. This turns the resting potential into action potential which is sent through the axon of the soma and through the dendrites. These dendrites are connected to the dendrites of another neuron. The potential travels through that soma, its axons, and its dendrites to reach the next one. When it reaches its destination, it hits what is called the termni buttons, which have neurotransmitters and chemicals and hormones stored in them. That is what gets my hand to move, not my subconscious mind.
"One of the facts is that your subconscious reacts explosively to strong emotions and feelings. Ever felt an ache in your stomach from having a strong emotion?"
Research has shown that to be incorrect. Research has indicated that the feeling in your gut, is the result of the activation of the nerve ganglia within that area. As said before, certain reflexes and reactions are done via the nervous system directly.
The subconscious mind is not in charge of heartbeat or breathing either. What is in charge of that is called the ANS or the Autonomic Nervous System. Within this nervous system is is the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous systems which are in charge of no adrenaline (no epinephrine) and adrenaline (epinephrine). Adrenaline preps the body for the flight or fight response and no adrenaline calms the body down after the issues has been dealt with. The ANS is responsible for transmitting and keeping in check autonomic functions. These are the involuntary actions that the body is constantly doing.
"So, how can you enhance some of its skills? Modern psychology compares the subconscious mind with the mind of an animal, because animals are believed to have none or a very small part of conscious mind. Therefore a dog's mind consists mainly or totally of its subconscious. How do you train your dog to follow an instruction? By repeating the instruction several times (many times in fact). The same thing happens while you practice telekinesis, you "tell" (in fact you just focus on the objective) your subconscious what you want it to do. And it takes some time until it actually understands what you want it to do and until it finds out how to do it. In 3 words: practice is important."
That is called by psychology conditioning. Animals and humans share two parts of the brain in common, the hindbrain and the midbrain. Humans have what is called the forbrain which houses the cerebral cortex. The cerebral cortex houses various things related to sight, I think the visual cortex is housed there. The cerebral cortex is what is in charge of such things that contribute to thoughts, reason, language, personality, etc. It is the largest part of the human brain. My psyche prof showed us a clip of the brain being dissected. It looked gross. You could say that where personality and the subconscious mind takes place is in the cerebral cortex of the brain. Most other animals do not have that part of the brain, therefore conditioning of a dog and an animal would be different.
"Your subconscious doesn't only respond to emotions and feelings, it also reacts to beliefs, exterior suggestions (music can be used as "exterior suggestion". I've tried this myself. Your favorite music may cause energy outbursts. It can help your practice, but it can also be an obstacle. Please find out what works better for you) and subliminal messages."
I am going to see if I can shorten this up. The conscious mind has what is called a schemata. You could say that they are files. A schemata is simply a psychological model that a person has of the world. They see a dog. They have never seen one. The person groups them with four legged animals. When they learn it is called a dog it is grouped again in the new category of dogs. When they see something similar to a dog or a new type of dog they group it under dog. That is a schemata. Belief systems and external suggestions create a certain type of model. A person incorporates them into their schemata.
"I feel I had to tell that, and I hope you have gained some insights into the nature and possibilities of your subconscious (be aware that most of this knowledge is provided by facts from the modern psychology). Overall, I personally am not a big fan of the idea to use your emotions/feelings (complexes?) to trigger some strong reactions, since you have no guarantee that it won't result in some psychical damage (we don't know enough about that topic). It's only for your consideration. You may try it, but don't get too obsessed Smile."
Give me a break... Whoever wrote this is confusing psychology and neurology. Psychology is the study of philosophy and physiology. It is the study of thoughts and emotions and the consciousness and how the consciousness affects the body and where it comes from. It is called the mind body problem. Neurology is purely the study of the brain.
The subconscious or the unconscious mind is connected to what is called Self and Ego. Self and Ego is connected to how we view ourselves and what makes up our total personality. Ego you can say is at the forefront of our personality. It is what we think of ourselves when we think of our personality. The unconscious mind acts as a storehouse, a filter. Any feelings or emotions or memories or anything that the conscious mind can not handle or deems wrong to house is pushed into there along with certain things that the conscious mind can not decipher (that is why subliminal messages are so odd). The subconscious mind sometimes influences us to do actions that we are not even aware of committing. So in other words, that nice person in across the street that donates to charity every day is probably housing a homicidal alter ego within their subconscious, due to all things concerning a person acting on homicidal actions being sent there.
I should add that I am a double major in Microbiology and Psychology minoring in Religion.
