I'd be yelling harder if it hadn't been a good post. It's just something you want to do very judiciously when you do it at all.
Subconcious shields tend to be much weaker than consciously constructed ones. I'm a natural Empath and had an interesting construction paper grade shields 'instinctively' up for almost 2 decades before I learned how to do it right. Also if she's got an instinctive 'cloak' on it that could mess with things.
Note for your reference only, since you are new here. All 'natural' means is 'could do at least one psionic skill without being taught or trying specifically to develop that skill." It has no connotations of strength here.

Ah, thanks for the vocabulary update.
She's been a natural empath all her life, something she considers a curse. She learned to shield herself and does it by second nature now, to the point where she has to concentrate not to keep it up, but to take it down.
I'll have to ask her if she masks/cloaks.

Sounds like she and I have quite a bit in common then. And any time. Since psionic language is not 'standardized' we try and keep at least our definition very clear. It gets too confusing otherwise!

Earlier the analogy was made to light; linked below is an article arguing we have no way of knowing of light's tribulations between events (i.e. interactions with matter). Likewise, as far as I can tell, if my psi changes in the process of moving, it's part of the experience of moving it and not something that sneaks up unawares. If you're teleporting the psi, it teleports, if you're shifting it, it shifts, and so on. Trying to just 'magic' it over to where you want it to be without some sort of way to experience the transition and stay connected with the psi you're moving may have less desirable effects, however. nobeliefs.com/light.htm
