Site I just started in earnest

This is my site that I just started really working on. Right now I am just getting the layout together and I just put together the forum today, so there is not much on there, really, LOL. I will write up articles for it when I have the time.

Several questions for you.

1) Why are you advertising before you have content?

2) Why are you creating yet another psionics site with nothing in it?

3) What do you intend to do with it that isn't being done somewhere else?

4) What is your long term plan for the site? Is it a personal repository or are you going to be trying to fill it with many people?

Tips

1) Can the music. It doesn't play on slow connections and is HIGHLY irritating.

2) Take it out of Blog format. It's not overly professional and is rather irritating as well.

I am like that with everything. I have a bad habit of showing things off before they are finished. I plan on putting things on it once I have time. It is just a personal project of mine, I am not sure of the long term goals. It is actually just something to do so I can get better with my web designing skills.

I plan on focusing more on research and dynamics versus a bunch of how to do articles, which I find highly annoying. Everyone has their own way of doing various different things, I plan on exploring the concepts behind those things versus a how to do tutorial that can be found on MANY sites. If you noticed the content that I do have there refers to the quantum theory floating around on the net concerning it. I also have one of Dean Radin's lectures up there in the Videos section. Right now I have about four or five articles up that refer to the research going on surrounding psi, two videos (a lecture by Dean Radin which is like an hour and a half long and a clip from What the Bleep Do We know), and one article that I wrote and posted today. I actually want to find some other video or audio clips on lectures given by other parapsychologist in that field to post on there.

It would be hard for me to change the layout. I am using a CSS style sheet template and pretty much doing the entire coding by hand. In order to change the layout of the site I would have to get a new template, change the style sheet reference on every web page or simply replace the original style sheet. If I do that though, I would have to change all the style values around in the web page, which would take FOREVER. I would have to redo EVERY page by hand. I am not using a web generator or a web design program. I am doing it by hand, so I will just have to stick for that layout for now.

Sorry if my answer is disjointed. I am typing fast and I am sleepy.

I have been working on it when I have time. All the articles in the research section are functional, and I just posted an article in the Telepathy section.

Let me give you one the biggest no nos in making sites: don't link to other people's articles and put that under your article section. It's lazy and uncreative. You can also get into legal trouble for that if you don't give proper credit or say you get permission to link up. It's fine to do that in a forum, but in a main site, you're pushing something you don't need to.

And yes, making and maintain a site is a pain in the butt. Yet some time, get some music and start working all on pages. I've done it myself.

Moved those articles to a seperate section of the site from the others I have done/will be doing myself and noted above that I did not write them. In addition to that, their original citations within the text are still intact. I can put music in the site, but I took it off because most found it to be annoying.

Leodragon: Might I recomend working with an existing site who'd like to go in that direction? (I would also like to point out that's the direction Psionline is trying to take, though we've been having a hard time getting updates.)

Now, one of the ideas I've been considering tossing at Stony, since he's having trouble with getting our main site up, (Life sucks all around). (Caveat I have NOT vetted this with stony so he still has the right to shoot it down). It might be more condusive for you to wait until you get your own articles up, use your site as a personal article spot and then see if Stony will Affiliate or let you link to THESE forums, which means you don't have to recruit your own player base. I don't think stony has specific criteria for that sort of thing yet, and I wasn't going to broach the issue until I got off of deployment, but it seems like you're thinking along the same lines as some of the people here, and is it not better to have one place or a linked network of reliable places to go for information? than just a scattered network which is what we currently have and will continue to have if the "Oh I want to do this I'll just make my own site!"

That is a good suggestion, especially since I am new to the web design thing. I want to write an article on interpetation of sensory information into overall perception as it relates to ESP abilities, but I am having a problem finding information on cognitive models that focus on interpretation of sensory information.

I'll pass, Leo, after several of our conversations, I think I'll rely on the local university library since I you are not objective in the slightest, nor do I trust you to post things in their entire context rather than taking them out to suit your needs as you have done in every conversation you have had with me. If you write the same way you discuss psionics and no one's opinion but yours actually matters, it is not likely to be worth my time to bother commenting. You won't listen anyway. You never have. Why do you have commentary if, as you told me repeatedly, no one's opinion but yours matters, and you dismiss all disagreeing arguments on the basis of that?

I actually meant in terms of lay out, LOL. I have custom installed the phpbb3 forum, so there are no adds and I have full control over the Mysql database. I have integrated a forum login via php that changes to your avatar and how many private messages you have in the forum when you login on the front of the page, and integrated a mysql database query at the bottom that request information from the database and supplies information about recent forum topics. I included RSS feed readers widgets, one that points to the RSS feed of a site called Science Daily, and I updated the menu for the articles and research section. It is a flash drop down menu. I plan on putting up podcast next and creating a Mysql databse that has an index of the site with a php based code that searches the index and serves as search engine for the site, so people can search the site.

I also have a blogging section where people can request to make an account, so they can start their own blog, and when I finish the code for the FAQ cgi, I will have a place where people can post FAQ to the site via that form.

I meant in terms of layout.

But then again, that is a different subject altogether. Anyway's, what do you guy's think about the layout. Think I need to add or change anything?
